教学目标 Course Objectives
The students will:
understand the geographic and historical division of Russia;
understand what ethnic groups have played an important role in the history of Russia;
understand the principles of geographic and historical division in Eurasian history;
acquire a new perspective to think about the history of Russian-Chinese relations;
learn how contemporary problems and political tensions in Russia are determined by its historical legacy.

The course aims to develop the following knowledge and skills:
analyze historical processes in Eurasia at the level of specific historico-geographic regions;
trace the causal connections between the contemporary political events, geographic factors and historical
legacy;
develop a sympathetic understanding of different ethnicities of contemporary Russia;
explain one’s point of view convincingly in academic writing.

Students will submit at least one
essay during the term, answering to
one of the proposed questions
(possible essay topics will be
announced at most classes). Each
essay will contain no less than 2000

(English). Students can submit more
than one essay, in which case only
the essay that has gained the
highest grade will be considered.
Students will give 10-minutes
