教学目标 Course Objectives
The students will:
learn about various religious practices in ancient and medieval China;
strengthen their analytical skills through the close reading of important primary sources;
engage critically with modern theoretical works in religious studies published in English and Chinese;
understand the lasting influence of ancient and medieval religious practices in contemporary society;
understand the differences and similarities between religious traditions in different parts of the world.

预达学习成果 Learning Outcomes
The course aims to develop the following knowledge and skills:
develop independent argument, relying on one’s own understanding of theoretical works and primary sources;
explain one’s individual point of view convincingly in writing in agreement with modern academic conventions;
develop a sympathetic and understanding attitude to practitioners of traditional religions, without necessarily
sharing their beliefs.

announced at most classes). Each
essay will contain no less than 2000
words and no more than 4000 words
(English). Students can submit more
than one essay, in which case only

will give 10-minutes presentations on
the contents of their essays, followed
by Q&A.
