By analyzing the memorial images existing in our living space such as monuments, historical sites and memorial
ceremonies, this course aims to reveal the process of memory formation, specifically, the complex mechanical
relationship among state power, cultural tradition, regional society, individual and foreign culture, etc. Focusing on the
previous disasters and wars, specific cases will be presented in the class to tell how these kinds of events can be
represented as memorial images by cultural and political means such as sanctification, selection, deletion, distortion, and
thus shaping our values and historical views. Classes are mainly conducted in the forms of lectures and discussions.
Sometimes pictures or videos will be appropriately used during the class. An investigation report will be given at the
end of the semester.
