教学目标 Course Objectives
本课程试从学科交叉的角度,主要探讨与教育相关的经济问题,深刻认识教育在经济和社会发展中
的地位和作用,掌握教育资源配置的一般规律,引导其反思个人的教育选择与经历,培养其运用经
济学的视角与方法分析和解释常见教育现象和问题的能力。
From the perspective of interdisciplinary, this course aims to enable students to systematically
study the basic theories and knowledge in the field of Education and Economics, deeply
understand the position and role of education in economic and social development, master the
general rules of educational resource allocation, guide students to reflect on their educational
choices and experience, and cultivate students to analyze and interpret common educational
phenomena and problems from the perspective of Economics.

1. 学习并了解人力资本理论、筛选理论、教育生产函数理论等教育领域的经典经济学理论,了解教
育现象的经济学解释。
2. 认识教育与经济、科技创新、社会发展之间的关系,教育对经济发展的贡献。
3. 理解教育投资、教育成本、教育收益等概念,能对教育成本与收益、教育收益率、教育的经济效
益进行分析计算。
4. 正确认识学校、家庭、个人因素对大学生发展的影响,能对教育现象与问题进行理性分析。
1. Study and understand the classical economics theories in the field of education, such as
human capital theory, screening theory, education production function theory, and understand
the interpretations of education phenomena.
2. Understand the relationship between education and economy, technological innovation, social
development. Identify the contribution of education to economic growth.
3. Understand the concepts of education investment, education cost, education returns, be able
to calculate and analyse the cost and returns of education, rate or return to education, and
economic benefits of education.

4. Have correct understandings of the influence of school, family, and personal factors on the
development of college students and be able to make rational analyses of education
phenomena and problems.

课程介绍和学科介绍
为什么要接受教育?学习经济学有什么用?
经济学的基本假设与概念:稀缺性,资源,理性人等。
2. 教育需求与供给(2 学时)
什么决定了你的补习时间?什么决定了你的工资?
需求、需求曲线、需求法则。供给、供给曲线、供给法则。
均衡、短缺与过剩。
3. 教育收益与成本(2 学时)
上大学能够带来哪些收益,又付出了哪些成本?
介绍教育收益的分类,教育的市场化与非市场化收益,教育收益率的估算方法与国际比较。
教育成本的概念、教育经费、教育成本的简单计算与分担。
4. 教育生产(2 学时)
学习教育投入与产出,规模经济等概念,了解教育生产函数和成本函数。
讨论:教育产业化:学校是生产线吗?
5. 大学生发展与学业成就(2 学时)
探讨学校、课堂、邻居、家庭和个人等多种因素对大学生学业成就与发展的影响。
引导学生讨论自身发展受到哪些因素的影响:学校物质设备和经费投入、同学同伴、师资质量等。

学历定薪还是用实力说话?
学习人力资本理论、筛选理论、劳动力市场分割等理论,了解教育在劳动力市场上的回报。
讨论过度教育和文凭膨胀问题。
7. 教育与经济发展(2 学时)
教育如何推动经济增长?
经济发展的含义,教育对经济增长的贡献分析。乘数效应,挤出效应。
案例:从高校扩招看教育对经济增长的效应
8. 教育与科技创新(2 学时)
大学是否沦为知识工厂?
教育对科技创新的作用与贡献,我国知识生产的状况与效率分析。
讨论:科学家修炼之路
9. 期中:影像中的教育与经济(2 学时)
自选观赏一部电影:《三傻大脑宝莱坞》、《风雨哈佛路》、《中国合伙人》
尝试用经济学的视角、理论和方法讨论影像中蕴含的教育现象和问题。

入读公立学校还是私立学校?教师薪酬激励有助于提高学生成绩吗?
了解分类绍教度及能,人与入学的教择以育激

讨论:教育劵在中国是否可行?如何择校?

理解教育中的政府与市场及其各自的作用。

Introduce Economics of Education and how Economists pay attention to the allocation of
resources among government agencies, schools and students, and study the economic
phenomena and problems in education.
Course introduction and discipline introduction
Why we are educated? What’s the use of learning Economics?
Basic assumptions of Economics: Scarcity, Resource, Rationality, etc.
2. Education Supply and Demand (2 credit hours)
What determines your tutoring time What determines your salary?
Demand, Demand curve, The law of Demand.
Supply, Supply curve, the law of supply.

Equilibrium, Shortage, Surplus.
3. Education Return and Cost (2 credit hours)
What are returns to education and costs of education?
Introduce the classification of education returns, the market and non-market returns of education,
the estimation methods and international comparison of rate of return to education.
The concept of education cost, education fund, the calculation and sharing of education cost.
4. Education Production (2 credit hours)
Learn the concepts of education inputs and outputs, scale economy, etc.
Understand the education production function and education cost function.
Discussion: Industrialization of education: Can education be viewed as a production line?
5. College Student Development and Academic Achievement (2 credit hours)
Discuss the influences of school, class, neighborhood, family and individual factors on college
student achievement and development.
Guide the students to discuss the influencing factors of their own development.
6. Education and Labor Market (2 credit hours)
Wage determination: by diploma or ability?
Study human capital theory, screening theory, labor market segmentation theory, etc. Understand
the returns to education on the labor market.
Discuss the problem of over-education and diploma inflation.
7. Education and Economic Development (2 credit hours)
How education promotes economic growth?
The meaning of economic development and the contribution of education to economic growth.
Multiplier effect, Crowding out effect
Case study: The effect of education expansion on economic development.

Whether universities be regarded as knowledge factory?
The impact and contribution of education to technology innovation. The situation and efficiency

Discuss: The practice guide for scientists
9. Mid-term: education in the movie (2 credit hours)
Watch 1 movie in these three movies and apply economic principles to analyze education issues
and problems in these movies.
10. Education Choice and Incentives (2 credit hours)
To attend public school or private school? Does merit pay improve student achievement?
Introduce school types, education voucher system and its effectiveness. Think about the school
enrollment choice of individuals and families and the roles of education incentives.
Discuss: Is it feasible to implement the education voucher in China? How to make smart school
choice?
11. The Role of Government and Market in Education (2 credit hours)
Understand the government and market in education and their roles.
Know about the externality of education, the property of public goods, market competition.
12. Topic discussion: Education efficiency and equity (2 credit hours)
Understand the meaning of education efficiency and equity and the relationship between them.
Discuss the education equity problems for the left-behind children and NCEE takers.
13.Topic discussion: Expansion of higher education (2 credit hours)
Discuss the background, reasons, influences and consequences of the higher education
expansion policy at national, institutional and individual level.
14. Topic discussion: Education and employment (2 credit hours)
Discuss the problems of college students on the labor market and how to deal with them, such as
whether to pursue graduate education, unemployment, job mobility, etc.
15.Topic discussion: Education and information technology transformation
The impact of MOOC, Big data, etc on education in the future.
Discussion: Does the traditional economic laws apply to online education and artificial intelligence
education?
