教学目标 Course Objectives
This course aims to help students to prepare for their College English Test, Band 6 (CET 6). It
includes four modules, i.e., Writing, Listening, Reading and Translation, which are the four
parts of the CET-6 test.

预达学习成果 Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students are expected to be able to:
Master vocabularies required by the CET-6 syllabus;
Use words, phrases, and grammar appropriately in writing and translation;
Use listening strategies to grasp the main idea, key words and specific information;
Master scanning and skimming skills to locate specific information;
Get the meaning of unknown words from specific contexts;
Grasp translation strategies and translate the source text into the target faithfully

教材及其它参考资 Textbook and Supplementary Readings
There is no formal textbook for this course. Learning materials will be provided in class in
the form of handouts.
课程评估 ASSESSMENT

1. Participation (60%): discussions, in-class exercises, informal mini presentations, peer
feedback on writing, etc.
2. Mastery tests (40%): (1) writing (10%, Week 4); (2) listening (10%, Week 8); (3) reading

(10%, Week 11); (4) translation (10%, Week 15)
3. Attendance: Three or more times of unexcused absence will result in the failure of the
course. Three times of being late equal one absence. Only absences for illness or family
emergency will be taken as excused absences. In this case, you have to apply for a leave
officially via the university system.
