教学目标 Course Objectives
The course will help students to:
Improve their listening as comprehension and acquisition, and speaking in both interaction and performance;
Deepen their knowledge on cultural themes of America, and improve critical thinking skills through cross-
cultural and comparative historical analysis;
Acquire authentic language usage including vocabulary, grammar, sentence structures and expressions that
can be used to communicate thoughts;
Develop independent learning skills to become autonomous learners.

预达学习成果 Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
Recognize features of the language input when listening to a podcast, and intake what they notice;
Apply the new linguistic features into their language usage when speaking and creating their own podcasts.
(Linguistic features include both language features such as vocabulary and expressions, and structural
features of an interview or a story in the podcast);
Comprehend the main idea and extract specific information from listening;
Reflect on one’s personal listening difficulties in English and implement strategies to overcome them;
Synthesize the information from readings and podcasts, and reflect critically on different cultures;
Utilize podcasts independently to locate and access authentic materials for language and culture learning
purposes.

In each class, student groups will be given a podcast analysis assignment. They will need to focus specifically on this
podcast and summarize and lead the discussion about it in the class.
Students can also listen to their preferred podcasts, but they must make sure the podcasts are of good quality in terms
of language and audios themselves.
