The course will help students to:
increase their awareness of pronunciation.
improve intelligibility by gaining a better understanding of English rhythm, stress, and intonation.
identify the features of English that cause particular difficulty for native speakers of Chinese and other Asian
languages.
learn strategies for practicing and improving pronunciation on their own.

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
recognize and produce English vowel sounds and diphthongs.
recognize and produce English consonant sounds and consonant clusters.
apply effectively appropriate stress patterns in English words and sentences.
comprehend and effectively use appropriate English intonation patterns.
gain a command of stress-timed rhythm of English.
identify their own pronunciation difficulties.
develop self-monitoring and self-correction skills.
